Sled Dog Mushing Gear

Technical Advantage builds gear to endure the elements and most all of the final testing that is completed on our "Arctic Thermal Gear Series" is done right at the Iditarod. What better way to determine whether your gear is worth offering and selling the following sales season then by punishing it for 10 to 15 days, for 1150 plus miles and in temperatures some years in excess of -100 degrees F?
You "don't" however have to be a mid to long distance musher in order to justify or qualify to wear any of our Winter Gear, as we also engineer gear items that will are the "best in the World" for Sprint Dog Mushers and qualifier distance Mushers as well. Our gear is built with one philosophy in mind and that is to work "BETTER" in keeping you warmer - longer then any other Brand of Gear in the World and you know what, it does!
This special "Summary Page" will give you our recommendations for the type gear that we know is perfect for your specific type of Sled Dog training or racing, with gear items such as the following referenced:

Prairie Snowstorm Mitts with Handlebar Straps:

The Prairie Snowstorm Winter Mittens pack a whopping thermal insulation value of R-7.15 on "both" the top and bottom sides of the mitts. Virtually no other mitt manufacturer in the World does this, nor do they equalize the amount of insulation material on both sides of the mitt. They put it all on the top side and in reality you need it on the bottom side of the mitts.

As you can see from the picture, these mitts are generously sized so that you can use them inconjuction with your protective gloves on, on the really cold days and you can keep them locked to the handlebars of your ATV or Dog Sled so you always know where they are. The recommended temperature ranges are from +30F to -30F.

The outer shell of these mitts block out 100% of the wind, are DWR water resistant and breathable. The inner most layer that surrounds the hand offers superior thermal moisture wicking to help keep the hand warm and dry. The Handlebar Straps are completely removable when not in use or required and the mitts are available in three sizes, Small, Medium and Large, all of which are generously sized compared to most other mitts in the World. We also "strip" our wraps with 1 inch wide heavy duty "hook" velcro type material versus 3/4" wide, so that the wrist wrap always achieves a firm lock on your dogs wrist. We make and sell the two most popular sizes of 7"x9" and 8"x10". Click here for more information>>>>>

Extreme Element Wind Therm Base Layers:
WOMENS: Aloe Green w/black windblocking inserts
Front View - Picture 1 --------- Rear View Picture 2 -------- Front View Bottoms - Picture 3 ------ Rear View Bottoms - Picture 4

Our Wind Therm Base Layer system is an innovative revolution to the business of long underwear tops and bottoms. We built them with a unique 2 Layer technical fabric system, with the main base material providing heavy weight warmth when the temperatures are cold and yet the same base material regulates the heat as the temperatures outside are rising, while also doing a superb job in wicking your sweat moisture away. In other words you will be warm when you need to be warm and dry and comfortable when the tempertures outside are rising above the freezing mark. So why not give up the "cold & clammy" that you have been wearing. The second technical addition that we incorporated into the main base layer fabric, are seven thermal windblocking, breathable, DWR water resistant inserts, placed in strategic locations thoughout the tops and bottoms. The sewn on inserts provide critical thermal windblocking protection for your upper chest core, biceps/triceps, thighs, hamstrings and buttock areas. Imagine, always having a warmer and dryer butt? The Womens sizes are designed and cut for women's bodies and they come to 2 blended sizes, Small/Medium and Medium/Large, with the color combination of Aloe Green w/Black Inserts. MENS: Moss w/black windblocking inserts
Front View - Picture 1 -------------Front View Bottoms - Picture 3 ---------- Rear View Bottoms - Picture 4

The MENS base layer system is built the same as the womens, however the cut of the patterns and sizing is specifically for guys. One thing that we haven't mentioned, is that when you are wearing our base layer tops & bottoms on at the same time, you can raise your hands to the skies and the cut length of the top is not going to pull up and out to let the wind and cold breezes blow in.(try that little test with the base layer tops that you currently own?) The sizing of our base layers "give you more" fabric and material for the price, versus all of the competitive brands of long underwear that are sewn in China and else where. The test batch base layers operated in temperatures from +50F to temperatures well below -50F and the users were dry and comfortable in the warmer temperatures and extra warm in the sub-zero outdoor tempertures and you will find them being worm again in the 2009 Iditarod, Spring 2009 Expeditions to the Himalaya's and currently there are some base layers working outdoor construction in Antarctica. So when you standing at the starting line banners on Willow Lake on the first Sunday in March and getting ready to head inland, you're going to feel alot more confident knowing that what ever spectrum of temperatures that you're going to face in the next two weeks, you won't have to worry about warmth and comfort because you're wearing the best base layer system for the job, Technical Advantage Extreme Element Wind Therm. Sizes Large & X-Large currently available. Click here for more information>>>>>
Arctic Thermal Hat:

Our Arctic Thrmal Winter Hat is perhaps, well ok it "is" the warmest hat in the World! It is recommended for temperature ranges from +10F to -60F, however you probably don't need it until the temperatures are at least -10F or colder and it can easily be worn in any temperature that you can stand to use it in. It is built with our 4 layer technical fabric system and has a built in shock cording for tightening around the head so a tree branch doesn't steal it off your head while on the trail. The hat thermally blocks 100% of the wind, is DWR water resistant, is breathable and highly moisture wicking around the head. Click here for more information>>>>>
XWick 3.4TRH Expediton Windblocking Thermal Wicking Rear Neck Flap Hat - Hardfaced Outer Shell Layer:

We've completed the XWick 3.4 TRH Expedition trifecta with the addition of our Rear Neck Flap Hat. This hat is excellent and especially built for high exertion outdoor Winter activities, where there are periods of exertion and periods of rest during varying winds and temperatures, so the body is either generating excessive heat or is cooling off during the rest periods. A Hat in this classification needs to thermally block the wind penetration, provide a medium heat or warmth feel when on the head and at the same time must provide superior moisture wicking to remove the sweat that builds up when mushing through the hard packed wind blown snow and this hat does it all. It also has a built in rear neck flap to keep the elements and cold air off of the back of the neck when a neck gaiter is not being worn and it has a rear external strap system for locking in your goggle or headlamp straps. The thermal regulation of the hat makes it wearable in temps from +32F (0C) to -60F (-51C).

he XWick 3.4TRH Expediton Series Rear Neck Flap Hats pack a combined thermal insulation value of R-3.4, which comes from the combination and function of each of the three layers together, which allows it to better regulate the heat, especially when your day is consisting of 50% or better of physical exertion as your mushing or running the dogs in training at at the big race.
With the interesting stretch of the 3 technical fabrics and the design cut, we've been able to configure this as a "one size fits most unit". We also built in a "turbo flap" on the inside front edge of the hat that flips up or down and it has been put there for when you really need to seal out the cold from the head winds that are pounding on your upper forehead and you want even more windblocking and warmth protection in that area. Click here for more information>>>>>
Kap Bridgman Arctic Thermal Hat:

The dynamics of this hat are very impressive. The base hat with the flaps up is cut to just cover the tips of the ear, yet when you really demand warmth and protection from the wind, the flaps can be pulled down to seal out the elements around the ears, the chin and around the back of the neck. The base hat is built with a 4 layer technical fabric system, the flaps are built with a 3 layer system and we've added the full, yes full baseball cap bill to help keep some of the elements out of your eyes. The thermal regulation of the hat makes it wearable in temps from +20F (-7C) to -100F (-73C).

The outer shell of the hat blocks 100% if the wind and is DWR water resistant, so rain, wind or snow is never going to penetrate into the inner layers of the hat. The technical fabric around the head does a great job in wicking any sweat moisture away as well and the hat is available in 2 different front bill colors as pictured. This is another one of the warmest hats in the World, so what are you waiting for? Click here for more information>>>>>
Kap Bridgman "Expedition" Arctic Thermal Hat:

The Kap Bridgman "Expedition" Arctic Thermal Hat is a step up from the base hat mentioned above, as it has been enhanced with the strapless head light user in mind. Some headlight users don't mind the elastic securing straps going around their heads for hours at a time and others do. For those who have a preference to just stick there headlamp onto the front of their hat and feed the battery pack cable though either side's cable securing straps and then go, this hat is for you. This hat also has a rear left tabbed closure pocket sewn to it, so that you can also store a couple extra replacement bulbs for later use and again, you can secure the battery pack cable to either side and the opening of the straps is enhanced with a nylon loop tab to grab with your fingers.

As an added feature for extra security during tough and especially windy conditions, or when running through heavy trail brush, we have enhanced the straps around the chin with 1 inch wide velcro material, instead of 3/4" wide that we use on the normal Kap Bridgman Hat.
The warmth of this hat is the same as the base hat and it offers all of the same features and then a few more. We also ship this hat with a removable front Technical Advantage Gear logo that is sewn to Hook (picky side) velcro material, so that you can place it in position when a headlight is not in use and it covers most of the sewn on Loop material that is attached to the front of the hat. Remember, in order to mount your strapless headlight to this hat, you must glue "hook" velcro material to the back side of it so that it sticks to the loop velcro that is sewn to the front of this hat. Windblocking Arctic Thermal Straight Neck Gaiter:

We build these neck gaiters in two different sizes and we also build them in larger length and width dimensions then the "status quo" competition in the global marketplace. We uniquely build in a top edge shock cord that allows you to tighten it and lock it to any position on your face. The 2 layer system blocks 100% of the wind on the outside, while the inner layer has superior heavyweight technical fleece warmth. This neck gaiter will also NOT FREEZE UP from your breath moisture and it allows you to always breathe warm air when over the nose. Click for more information>>>>>
Note: If you're running the Quest or Iditarod for the first time, don't be like everyone else and carry on the tradition of listing on your website that you "will need 18 to 22 fleece neck gaiters for the big race"! With our Technical Advantage Gear neck gaiters as they are built with at least a 2 Layer design that never leaves you with "frozen mush face", at minimum you'll only need (1) one for the entire race, yes only one. If you're strategic in your thinking, you'll buy (2) two of them, so that you can pack one ahead in one of your checkpoint gear bags as a back up, or just store it in your sled bag so that you always have the spare with you. We would recommend one of our Drop Pad Neck Gaiters for the extreme temperature days where you need to seal out the maximum amount of the cold face biting air and you need extra warmth and protection for both the face, neck and upper chest core and then a straight neck gaiter for the more tropical days of the race when the winds still blow and you still need neck and face protection. Overall you will save money, packing space and best of all you will have a face with minimized frostbite, assuming you keep your face covered with one of our neck gaiters.
Cross Hybrid Windblocking Thermal Drop Pad Neck Gaiter w/4 Pockets:

Our Cross Hybrid Windblocking Thermal Drop Pad Neck Gaiter is similar in overall warmth to our original "granddaddy" design reference below, however it has progressed to the next design generation with the addition of (1) pockets on the outside of each drop pad and (1) additional pockets on the inside of each drop pad, for a total of (4) pockets. You decide what needs to be stored in them to be kept from freezing up during a long distance training run or race, as the pockets add a new dimension to our exclusive 2 Layer technical fabric design.
The Cross Hybrid offers the same mainstay assets of 100% thermal windblocking protection, excellent overall thermal warmth, pull tight top edge shock cord & cord loc, DWR water resistant outer shell layer, but it also again allows you to always breathe in warm air when pulled up over the nose while not allowing moisture to penetrate through and freeze up. Windblocking Arctic Thermal Drop Pad Neck Gaiter:

Our Technical Advantage Gear "Drop Pad Neck Gaiter" is an ORIGINAL design and is exclusive to our product line only. In other words, you can't buy it anywhere else in the World unless someone has copied our exclusive design. Two drop pads, one front and one in the back that have been configured to keep your upper chest core warm on the front, while sealing the air flow completely out on the back of your neck. The drop pads can be reversed or turned around your neck, whereby the front becomes the back and the back the front.

The top edge of the Drop Pad Gaiter also comes with a built in shock cord, that can be tightened to keep it in the exact position on your face that is desired. The mainstay of this unit is built with a 2 layer technical fabric system, with the exception that the drop pads also contain a 3rd internal layer of special polyester insulating material. Windblocking 100%, breathable, water resistant on the outside, matched with a heavyweight technical fleece on the inside and generously sized, all combine for another warm and frost free face. Note: If you are running the Quest or Iditarod for the first time, have limited funds and are expecting limited donations to your cause as well, then do yourself a favor and purchase one of our Technical Advantage Gear Windblocking Arctic Thermal Drop Pad Neck Gaiters, as IT IS THE ONLY NECK GAITER THAT YOU WILL NEED FOR THE ENTIRE RACE! You don't need to waste your time and money on buying 18 to 22 straight cut cheap fleece neck gaiters that "are not" going to block out the face cutting winds and are only going to end up freezing and sagging down on your face, leaving you with frostbite, when you can buy one of our Drop Pad Neck Gaiters that will give you more total asset value then anything else that exists on the planet. Some mushers buy (2) two of these for the big endurance races, however after they cross the finish line you generally find out that they wore the same one for the entire race, yet they were smart enough to have a back-up in case they broke through the ice or lost the initial one some how. The Drop Pad Neck Gaiters are as critical to have and wear during your big race, as are a good pair of mittens for keeping your hands warm. So be smart and break the traditional mold of posting on your website that you need donations of or money for 18 to 22 cheapie straight cut fleece neck gaiters that just aren't going to be effective.
Prairie Snowstorm Mitts with Handlebar Straps: Excellent for Training Runs & Qualifiers

We've talked about these mitts above under the Sprint Dog Training & Racing recommendations and want to mention them again here, because they make and excellent training and qualifying distance mitten when the temperatures are -30 F or warmer. Remember, they have equalized thickness and insulation on both the top and bottom sides of the mitts, which most other manufacturers "don't" offer and they pack an R-7.15 of thermal insulation value. You can't beat that with the mitts you're wearing right now, unless they're ours! As well, these will secure to the handlebar on your sled or ATV and we'll guess that yours won't either. Extreme Element Arctic Thermal Mitts w/Detachable Thumb Loc Straps - Hardfaced Outer Shell Layer

We designed and cut the patterns for these mitts, especially for our base of Female Sled Dog Musher customers, however this mitt is not just limited to mushing and not just to females either. We decided to strip off some of the goodies that we build into the other larger sized Extreme Element Arctic Mitts and at the same time work to enhance the bend flexibility and gripping slightly, which we did by 15% to 20%, without sacrficing much in the way of our standards for thermal insulating values built into both the top & bottom sides of our mitts. We took out a layer of technical fabric from both the top and bottom, however these mitts were still built using 12 total layers (6 top/6 bottom) and still pack a second to no one thermal insulation value of R-9.3. We also changed the outer shell layer to a technical fabric that has a hardfaced, yet fairly soft to the touch finish, which will further enhance abrasion resistance. The outer shell is of course thermally windblocking, DWR water repellent and has very good moisture vapor breathability. We've also included fully detachable thumb loc straps as some women don't like locking their mitts to the handlebar of their sled. Extreme Element Arctic Thermal Mitts with Thumb Loc: The BIG Guns!

Built with 14 total layers of technical insulating fabrics, 7 on the top and 7 on the bottom side, these mitts produce a huge Thermal Insulation value of R-10.5 on both sides of the mitts. Now combine the insulating warmth with the wrist webbing strap and the hand entry area pull tight shock cord, you now have a vessel that virtually eliminates the effects of conductive and convective heat loss when used. Yes, the Outer Shell thermally blocks 100% of the wind, is also DWR water resistant and breathable. On top of that where almost "every other" mitt in the World "fails", we don't when in comes to providing the ultimate moisture wicking system for keeping your hands warm and dry. The first 2 layers that surround your hands provide the finest moisture wicking and thermal fabrics that we believe exist on the Globe and guess what, we use them. These mitts have been on nine hour early Winter ATV dog training runs in the rain and guess what, hands that were still warm and dry! These are made to be worn with gloves and they are the ONLY production mitt built to lock onto your handlebars in the World! Click here for more information>>>>>
